For decades, there are a number of MEDs which have been introduced for abortion. A combination of pills is used so that it can help women to deal with an unplanned pregnancy. These pills, empty the uterus and get the fetus dispelled from the body. The primary pill which is used helps women to separate the fetus and the secondary pill used helps to empty the uterus by contracting the uterus.

Progress of the Abortion Pills

  1. In the year 1980, a product named Mifepristone was developed and later it was sold under the brand name RU-486 and Mifeprex in the US. This MED initially was used as a remedy to get the pregnancy terminated. This MED blocks the progesterone hormones in the body and binds to the receptors.
  2. In the year 1985, Mifeprex pill was discovered to sensitize myometrium to prostaglandin. Thus, due to this the administration of the secondary pill was considered as not that effective.
  3. In the year 1988, Mifepristone gained a license in France and was prescribed by a health care provider to use along with Misoprostol.
  4. In the year 1994, Roussel-Uclaf, the company which owned RU-486 turned over US rights in order to seek FDA approval.
  5. In 1996, the FDA indicates that the Mifeprex pill was safe for use and also the effectiveness of the pills was described. But the final approval of the pills was stalled.
  6. In the year 1999, around a million women safely terminated the pregnancy with the help of both the pills.
  7. In the year 2000, the FDA approved to use 600mg Mifepristone followed by 400mcg Misoprostol.
  8. In the year 2016, the labels were updates and women were required to use 200mg dose instead of 600mg dose. The results were effective in women, those who had a gestation period of 9 weeks.

Abortion laws and access

While the medical termination of pregnancy was introduced the world was divided into two-pro-choice and pro-life. Numbers of people were against the women’s choice and many were in favor of the women's support as they believed that women should have control over the body.

Increase in the Ban

From the year 2009, a number of bans on the use of the pills were imposed. Some also lead to shutting down of the clinics.
Due to the band women proceeded with the unsafe methods and due to this the rates of women having maternal deaths increased.

Blotched surgeries, overpriced pills, and fake MEDs made the way to reach the women, those who needed an abortion and made a loss of life.

Light of hope

Even after many such things, there were a number of NGO's which were established so that it can help women get the pregnancy terminated. Women have not had to buy Abortion Pills online instead they were provided free of cost so that the women can have an abortion. After a number of sessions, the pills were made available in a few regions and the ban was removed.

There are a number of people who are in favor, and who are against abortion. This is a complete choice of women as she is the one who carries the life in her womb.
